There are finally going to be good, old fashion hot dogs available in Downtown Hillsboro. And according to the owners and masterminds behind this micro business, “It’s where the cool kids go!” Terah and Travis Henry are usually wielding scissors and razors when they are running their other businesses, Chop Shop Hair Studio and XOXO Chop Shop Salon. Now they are ready to run the grill and sling some dogs behind the Chop Shop at 230 SE Washington Street.
“It’s a fun addition to Washington Street – what some may consider the little brother of Main Street,” says EJ Payne, director of the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership. “And the creative ideas from Travis and Terah are helping make Downtown Hillsboro a pretty hip place to hang out!”
They will cook up a plain old wiener for the faint of heart, but if you put on your big boy pants you can try a more daring option, like the Mac Daddy (mac n cheese, bacon, and Cheetos) or the Cappy (mozzarella, cream cheese, tomatoes, pesto, and balsamic sauce). There is even a vegetarian option – the Franky’s Way – which replaces the beef with a delicious vegan dog. And they have Kool-aid. Seriously, they serve Kool-aid.
The food cart will be open on site Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm throughout the year and may also pop up at events in other parts of town.
Hillsboro Downtown Partnership will be there to cut the ribbon at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 12, rain or shine! Don your parkas and line up for wiener, dog, frank, weenie – whatever you want to call it. Just come hungry!
