Halloween in Downtown Hillsboro
UPDATE - 6/19/25

Important Update: Due to a loss of funding and a lack of sponsorships, Hillsboro Downtown Partnership will not be hosting our traditional Halloween in Downtown event this year. We know this may come as a disappointment, and we truly appreciate your understanding as we look toward the future.

That said, we’re still embracing the spooky spirit! In the days leading up to Halloween on Friday, October 31, 2025 we’ll support downtown trick‑or‑treating and help families get into the Halloween fun through two community resources:

  • Costume Closet – A free costume resource for families experiencing hardship, providing kids and adults with access to fun and festive attire for Halloween.

  • Candy Drive – Supporting downtown businesses with extra candy to prepare for what we hope will be a busy and exciting night of trick‑or‑treating.

While we’re skipping the formal event this year, our goal is to bring Halloween in Downtown back in the future—bigger, better, and even more spirited. In the meantime, we invite you to join us in making Halloween magical for the community in new and meaningful ways.

Stay spooky, Hillsboro! 👻

Donate Candy to Halloween

Downtown Hillsboro is made up of a tight knit community of small businesses. The COVID-19 pandemic and the Weil-Arcade Fire of 2021 hit this community especially hard. Many businesses continue to operate in recovery mode and for some, participation in Halloween can be a barrier due to the cost of candy for 1,500+ trick-or-treaters. Hillsboro Downtown Partnership understand this concern and is accepting candy donations. Bulk candy donations must be in original sealed packaging and can be dropped by The Downtown Hive at 233 SE Washington Street, Monday-Friday from 10:00 am - 4:30 pm. For more information, please email [email protected].

Just a few of our images from Halloween in Downtown 2023 put on by your local non profit Main St. organization, the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership!

The story goes that more than three decades ago, Downtown businesses joined together to host the only business district trick or treat event in the nation. It even got national news coverage for being innovative in the era of crazy trick or treating stories. And ever since then the businesses has been inviting kids and their families in the well-lit shopping district along Main Street. We continue this year with Trick or Treat on Main Street!

This family friendly Downtown Tradition eventually evolved into the Halloween in Downtown Hillsboro Event: an annual trick-or-treating event happening in the downtown district of Hillsboro. The Hillsboro Downtown Partnership partnered with Downtown businesses, local schools, and more to provide spooky music, performances, people & pets costume contest, a haunted houses, Trunk or Treat on Main Street, and tons of candy along a very festive route.
