PLAID FRIDAY

The name Plaid Friday was conceived from the idea of weaving the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the relaxing and enjoyable alternative to the big box store “Black Friday,” and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses the day after Thanksgiving. Created in 2009 in Oakland, CA and adopted in Downtown Hillsboro in 2018. Wear some plaid when you are shopping at these businesses on November 26, and take advantage of the special they are offering just to you.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Shop Small® and do something big. According to research done by American Express, for every $1 spent at a small business, an average of $0.67 stays in the community. Wow, that’s a huge impact! And if that’s not motivation enough, come on Downtown and see the specials that our small businesses have running just for you. Volunteers will be setup with a welcome booth at 3rd and Main to help you with your gift search by sharing info about our local shops and some of the products and services they have to offer.

DISCOVER DOWNTOWN SUNDAY

You may think that Downtown is closed for business on Sundays, but that assumption is a thing of the past. As we get more and more sophisticated retailers, restaurants, and personal service providers established Downtown, more businesses are opening on Sundays, especially through the holiday season. So come on down and shop on Sunday! Thank businesses for being open, show your support by buying something, and tell your friends: Downtown Hillsboro is open for business on Sundays!

LOCAL CYBER MONDAY

Cyber shopping doesn’t mean that you have to give up the local shopping vibe. Several Downtown businesses have online shopping options for both products and gift cards. Check out this list of businesses that have online stores or catalogs for you to peruse. And if you need a mellow place to shop, Insomnia has free Wifi and great coffee.

GIVING LOCAL TUESDAY

GivingTuesday inspires millions of people across the globe to show up and give back to causes and issues that matter to them. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet. We believe one of the best ways to give back is to support local causes in our community, and there are many local charities that are headquartered in Downtown. Many of our businesses are also holding drives for other community organizations. You can even give a gift in the name of someone on your list that is hard to shop for and check two things off that holiday to-do-list.

GIFT WRAPPING

HDP's gift wrapping services are here to help you save time energy by wrapping all of those holiday and birthday gifts for you. Our gift wrapping is available all year, but especially during the holidays when those presents begin to pile up. Instead of staying up late on Christmas Eve, bring your presents to the Downtown Hive and let us wrap them for you!
