Hillsboro Wishing Tree
October 1-31, 2020 | #hillsborowishes | #hillsborodeseos
The Hillsboro Wishing Tree, is a weeping elm at the northeast corner of Main Street and NE 2nd Avenue in Downtown. But it’s more than just a tree, it is a place of unity where community comes together to share wishes and hopes for the future. It is both a community building activity and an artistic demonstration during the month of October (Hillsboro Arts Month).
A group of Downtown volunteers are bringing an international tradition to Downtown Hillsboro and giving it a Hillsboro spin that will bring community together. This initiative is a spinoff of the Hillsboro Downtown Together Steering Committee, a collaboration of organizations, businesses, and individuals who share a passion for making Downtown Hillsboro a better place.
LIVE ON FACEBOOK
Volunteers, community organizations, and businesses will be hosting daily live feeds either from the Wishing Tree or a location where wishes are being created to later hang on the tree. Please like and follow the page to keep up to date and inspired by this community act of love!
Create your Wish at home
We wanted to ensure that everyone in our community has a chance to participate in the Wishing Tree this year, so below is a link to a tag that you can print at home, fill out, and drop by to tie on the tree when no one else is around. We always welcome unique, home-made wish tags and art too! If you aren’t comfortable verturing Downtown this year, create your own wishes and post them to social media using #hillsborowishes or #hillsborodeseos.
INVITING FRIENDS: We’ve created a Facebook page so that you share your Wishing Tree experiences with others in our community!
PARKING: There is plenty of street parking Downtown after the workforce goes home for the evening. A sure bet, is one of the City lots off of 2nd Avenue. They are located:
- At the SE corner of SE 2nd Avenue and SE Washington Street.
- On the south side of the Hillsboro Civic Center, on SE Washington Street between SE 1st and 2nd Avenues.
- On the west side of NE 2nd Avenue, mid-block between NE Lincoln and Jackson Streets.
AFTER OCTOBER: When October is over, the wishes will be respectfully removed and given a second life of some sort. Please follow #downtownhillsboro on social media or watch for updates to see where all our wishes will end up next.
BUSINESS PARTICIPATION: Many Downtown businesses have eagerly signed on to be part of this community initiative, as you can see from the list above. If you are a business and would like to support the event, please email email@example.com. Here are some materials with more details and to download and share the initiative on social media.
