New Works, Fresh Voices: HART Champions a Landmark Season in Hillsboro
As we move from winter into spring, Hillsboro Artists’ Regional Theatre (HART) is cementing its reputation as the premier home for world premieres and bold new plays. This season isn't just about entertainment; it’s about HART acting as an incubator for the stories of today—and the hits of tomorrow.
“New works are the lifeblood of our art form,” says Harrison Butler, Artistic Director of HART. “Our goal is to champion writers and creatives with meaningful support, and to help launch work that can travel, grow, and begin a life beyond its first production.”
Two Major World Premieres
The momentum begins with two powerful, locally-grown productions hitting the main stage.
Pros and Cons of Killing Your Husband
By April Aasheim February 7 – February 22 This rip-roaring comedy explores the hilarious and heart-wrenching complications of long-term relationships. What makes this production special is its journey: it started as a reading in last year’s Fertile Ground Festival and has now grown into a full Main Stage production.
Ticket Alert: Opening night is already sold out, and seats for the rest of the run are moving fast!
2. Alma de Luna
By David Fuks Developed over a decade, this is a universal parable of grief, resilience, and belonging. Centered on a family of immigrants navigating heartbreak, the play is an invitation to witness and stand together. With support from various community foundations, HART is ensuring this production is accessible to everyone, with a special focus on engaging Hillsboro’s Latino community.
The Main Event: Fertile Ground Festival 2026
Following these premieres, HART will serve as the West Side’s flagship venue for the Fertile Ground Festival of New Works. Produced by the Portland Area Theatre Alliance (PATA), this festival is a city-wide celebration of "theatre in progress."
This year, HART is hosting its most ambitious lineup ever:
19 New Works
8 Action-Packed Days
2 Brand-New Musicals
This is a rare opportunity to see "the next big thing" before anyone else in the region.
Community-Powered Art
None of this would be possible without the vital investment from our local partners. We want to extend a huge thank you to the Hillsboro Community Foundation and the City of Hillsboro Cultural Arts District. Their support helps remove financial barriers, making sure that world-class theatre is available to all members of our community.
