Local Hillsboro artists brought color and whimsy to Downtown in our Winter Window Artist Takeover

We hosted our first collage artist, Cherie Savoie Tintary of Kitschy Collagist

Artists take over Downtown Hillsboro twice per year with seasonal window art installations.

Hillsboro Downtown Partnership, with support from Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council, brought 11 Hillsboro artists to complete winter window art installations on 11 local businesses from Main Street down to 10th Ave. Our theme this season was Woodland Creatures, tying into the theme of 2023's Hillsboro Holly Days Celebration, and we loved seeing each artist's unique takes on the theme. This year was made extra special with our first foray into new mediums with local collage artist, Cherie Savoie Tintary of Kitschy Collagist installing a vintage collage at Colours Art.

You can learn more about this fun project on the Window Artist Takeover page.

Artist braved rain, rain, and more rain to complete their projects.

After a long, dry, sunny fall, the rains arrived just in time to challenge our artists to complete an outdoor project in inclement weather. Ever the professionals, our artists, along with a healthy supply of hand warmers and warm drinks from Bennett's Urban Farm Store and Insomnia Coffee, braved the weather to breathe some life into the cold, grey landscapes of Hillsboro's winter season.

Our artists told us how more people can support Hillsboro public art.

We hope to give new and experienced artists a chance at a paid, large scale project to add to their portfolio with this project. We also think this opportunity benefits businesses by creating opportunities for connection and beautifying their windows for the season. There are so many opportunities to support public art in Hillsboro.

Artist Abby Crows suggests, "Spread the word and invite your friends to enjoy the wonderful art scene Hillsboro has built. Purchase from local artists and support initiatives to aid funding so more people have access to art!"

We couldn't do this project without the support of our incredible partners like Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council who sponsored this year's project and who work tirelessly to support the Hillsboro arts community. We hope you enjoy this season's windows, if you would like to participate in the next round, visit the Window Artist Takeover page to learn how to apply!
