A Blank Canvas in the Heart of Downtown: A Mural for the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership!
Downtown Hillsboro is quickly becoming a living gallery, with vibrant murals breathing new life into our city's streets. From the bold artwork at M&M Marketplace to the inspiring designs at Main Street Commons, public art is a powerful tool for community-building and celebrating our shared culture.
The City of Hillsboro’s Public Art Program recently relaunched with a fresh focus on making murals more accessible than ever. With annual funding and a streamlined application process, the city is actively seeking new locations and community-driven ideas for future art projects.
This had us thinking: what walls in our city are just waiting for a splash of color and a new story to tell?... One location that immediately comes to mind is the back wall of the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership building here at 233 SE Washington Street.
We thought....this wall, visible to many who walk and drive through the heart of our downtown core, represents a fantastic opportunity. The Hillsboro Downtown Partnership is a hub for community collaboration, home to the Downtown Hive, and a major driver of positive change. A mural on this prominent wall could serve as a powerful visual statement, reflecting the partnership's mission to cultivate and amplify a vibrant downtown. It could be a symbol of growth, unity, and the creative spirit that makes Hillsboro so special.
Well we are honored and proud to announce we have been chosen for this very opportunity!
A local muralist McKenzie Scott has been selected to complete the work on our back wall that will portray Hillsboro community members, in silhouette, enjoying everyday activities! She plans to invite community members to have their silhouette featured in the mural, posting an open call to participate in the painting process in partnership with Hillsboro Downtown Partnership!
